Genoa Systems, Inc., where Paniagua later assumed the position of Manager, OEM Sales, made pioneering strides in this field. Genoa Systems became the first graphics company to offer an Enhanced Graphic Adaptor (EGA) capable of displaying a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. Paniagua’s exposure to graphics technology during this period catalyzed his future endeavors.

The Formation of Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA)

While working at Genoa Systems, Inc, Paniagua’s passion for technology and his desire to drive innovation led him to co-found the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) in 1987. Serving as an international non-profit corporation, VESA aimed to set interface standards for the personal computer, workstation, and consumer electronics industries. Paniagua played a pivotal role in VESA, pulling together 40 of the top technology companies for VESA’s first meeting held opening day of San Jose’s Fairmont Hotel in 1987. Through VESA, Paniagua contributed to establishing crucial standards that harmonized the development of display technologies, fostering compatibility and interoperability across devices.

Pioneering Entrepreneurship

With a solid foundation in the technology sector and a deep understanding of the market, Paniagua embarked on a path of entrepreneurship driven by his vision to push the boundaries of innovation. In 1995, he founded KidWise LearningWare, a company focused on children’s edutainment. This venture highlighted Paniagua’s commitment to leveraging technology for educational purposes, catering to the needs of young learners.

In 2006, Paniagua established GreenPlug, Inc., his latest venture aimed at simplifying the AC to DC consumer charging experience. GreenPlug, Inc. focused on developing innovative solutions to streamline the charging process, making it more efficient and user-friendly. The company’s Intellectual Property (IP) drew the attention of Google, leading to the acquisition of GreenPlug’s IP. Paniagua’s ability to identify market gaps and provide solutions through entrepreneurial endeavors earned him a reputation as a visionary in the technology industry.

Throughout his career, Paniagua has been a catalyst for technological advancement and a driving force behind various initiatives. He has raised over $100 million in venture capital, supporting diverse ventures spanning children’s edutainment, computer graphics, PC peripherals, semiconductors, software, and related technologies. Paniagua’s contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he was awarded DEMOgod at DEMO 2008, received an honorary Doctor of Arts from Cogswell Polytechnical College, and became a founding member of the US-China Green Energy Council.
