Is Your Phone Dying? 7 Key Signs You Need a New Phone

Has it been a while since you’ve upgraded your phone? While we love to believe that our phones are long-term investments (they sure cost as much as one), they do become outdated pretty quickly with the fast pace of technology.

If you’ve noticed that your phone isn’t quite what it used to be, it might be time to get a new one.

While it’s always sad to let a loved piece of tech go, it might be time to move on to newer and better things. Here are 7 signs you need a new phone.

  1. Your Screen is Smashed

This one is one of the obvious signs you need a new phone, so we’ll start here.

It’s easy to hang onto your phone for too long. A hairline crack? No big deal. You barely notice it. But how many times have you dropped your phone to land it in this condition? Can you still see your screen with it looking like that?

Some screens can be replaced, but depending on the maker, replacing the phone can be easier and cheaper.

  1. You Can’t Download Updates

Modern phones get software updates relatively frequently. Most of the time this is a great way to improve your phone’s functionality without having to get a whole new device.

Unfortunately, if you’re not using new enough equipment, you might not get the updates at all.

  1. Your Phone Is Slowing Down

Like everything else, your phone slows down as it gets older. No longer as spry and quick as in its youth, it needs more time to do even the most basic of tasks.

If you notice your phone losing the spring in its step, it’s time to let it go.

  1. Apps Aren’t Supported

If there’s a hot new app that you want or need, you might need a relatively recent phone in order to download it.

While many necessities are going to stand the tests of time on your phone’s home screen, newer apps may require a newer OS or even a newer model.

  1. Your Battery Isn’t Lasting

Has your phone been dying a lot sooner than it used to? This can be a sign that it’s just not as capable as it used to be.

Since many phones no longer have removable batteries, this means that it’s time for an upgrade (or to keep a charger with you at all times).

  1. Your Phone Is Overheating

Does your phone get hot to the touch when you’re using it? This isn’t a good sign, and it might mean that it’s time for a new one.

There are plenty of lesser reasons why your phone might be a little bit toasty, but if you’ve ruled them out, it’s time to switch.

  1. You Just Want One

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes we’re just ready for an upgrade. When a phone comes out that has a new and shiny upgrade that you don’t have, it might be time to make the switch.

A phone purchase can feel like a big decision, so do some research! Read on here
